Committee on Fisheries hears Ireland is the most compliant EU Member State

In a 30-minute opening assertion Mr Hayes stated, “The SFPA confirms that there was no change within the fish weighing on touchdown preparations between the Republic of Eire and different jurisdictions because of Brexit below the EU rules…

He stated that the one means through which fishery merchandise is likely to be weighed following a touchdown in Northern Eire could be by a typical management program between the UK and Eire authorized by the EU Fee.

Mr Hayes said, “You will need to reiterate no such frequent management program has ever existed, both earlier than or after Brexit. Due to this fact, landings to Northern Eire are handled equally to landings in any EU state with which Eire doesn’t have a typical management program. Irish operators might select to buy fish landed to a jurisdiction with which Eire doesn’t share an authorized frequent management program, reminiscent of Northern Eire. In such instances, the weighing will need to have taken place within the touchdown jurisdiction, both by the default of instantly at touchdown, or maybe at a permitted submit transport institution in that touchdown territory. If a management plan exists there.”

After the controversy of the assertion made in relation to fish processors, Michael Collins, Impartial TD for South-West Cork, who had campaigned to carry the SFPA in entrance of the Joint Committee, took the ground.

Deputy Collins was adopted by Sinn Féin Deputy, Pearse Doherty, Sinn Féin Spokesperson on Fisheries, Deputy Padraig Mac Lochlainn, Impartial TD, Thomas Pringle, Ind, and Seán Sherlock, the Labour TD for Cork East.
