Didymo found in Upper Manistee River


The Michigan departments of Setting has confirmed a report of didymo, aka “rock snot”alga, in a stretch of the Higher Manistee River. The Manistee River discovering marks the primary detection of didymo blooms within the Decrease Peninsula. In 2015, extensive mats of didymo were found on the Michigan side of the St. Marys River near Sault Ste. Marie in the Upper Peninsula.

“We’re taking this very critically,” mentioned Invoice Keiper, an aquatic biologist with the Michigan Division of Setting, Nice Lakes and Vitality. “Our sense is it may invade any chilly water stream we’ve got within the state.”
